Well, are there? What do you like to write? Do you have any examples of your stuff? I do, feel free to listen to some of my works and you can even look at the music if you go to the Sibeliusmusic site. You just need to download and install the free Scorch plug-in if you haven't done so already. My personal site: http://www.mikehadden.com My Sibeliusmusic site: http://members.sibeliusmusic.com/mhadden Please, if you listen, let me know what you think! If you leave links to your stuff I'll listen and comment as well! Enjoy! I look forward to hearing some of your stuff!

Hi uvbnskoold. I am a wannabe music composer, and I'm trying to do a bit of self-learning for two years (or more), before I go to a Music Conservatory. I have a good background in music, as I completed the 3rd grade (in 8th) in Music Theory, in the Oporto's Music Conservatory. I'm now trying to learn counterpoint by myself, with the aid of Fux's Study of Counterpoint, and I am still trying to learn more about chords and modes on the Internet. I've heard some of your music for piano and they are very good, nice work there. I'll be more specific as soon as I have more time to hear them again. And also, 16 hours ago I created a similar discussion: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/520524.aspx I would also like, if possible, some advice on composing, what I should be learning or doing.

One of the things I can't stress enough, but you're probably already doing is to listen to as much stuff as many times as you can. Probably one of the best things I've done is listen to my favourite composers over and over again - which is I guess why I sound like them when I write (or so people tell me). I actually have the Fux book as well and it's a great book, keep at it. I'm not a big fan of modes and I'm not big on theory, but I do like composing in E dorian... just sounds great! Listen to various styles of music intently so you can pick up different styles, this will add to your versatility - especially helpful if you want to start going film/tv work. Anything else you'd have to be more specific. If you have any questions just message me, I'm more than happy to help out ;)
