"Syria underlines China's role as a great power at UN

Syria on Thursday underlined the important role played by China as a great state and permanent member to the UN Security Council.
President Bashar al-Assad hailed during his meeting with China's Foreign Minister Li Zhao Xing, China's positions supporting the just Arab causes noting at the same time to "China's significant role as a great power and permanent member to the UN Security Council."
There was a stress during the meeting on the "nonstop of consultation and coordination between the two countries over issues of common interest." For his part, Chinese FM highlighted the development of ties between the two countries since the latest visit of President Assad to China last year pointing out at the, "positive role that Syria is playing in the Middle East."
Talks have dealt with ties of friendship between the two countries and most up-to-date developments in the region and Iraq. They stressed the importance of reactivating the United Nations and UN Security Council expansion as to achieve justice and equality. "The view points are identical over these issues," a presidential announcement said."
