I will add ham, and onions, and maybe some other things when I go through my refrigerator. I will make cornbread from scratch, using no real recipe, but just by feel. I always want it to taste the same way I remember my grandmother's cornbread. I like hot breads better than cake. I almost always cook pinto beans, because that is what my first husband liked, and this one does too. I used to make a 16 bean soup, but it really had fourteen beans and two grains. Do you make any kind of bean soup?

Oh my goodness you two are making me hungry. Don't have a bean soup recipe but love ham in beans. I also love homemade bread it smells about as good as it taste.

I am really into comfort food. I do not really use a recipe for my regular beans. The soup mix that I mentioned before did have things like add tomatoes, and lemon juice. The most complicated thing was finding all of the bean varieties in my small town.

Oooh, I love hocks'n beans. I just told my husband I had a hankering for them. We put northern beans in a crock pot with a hock, onion, garlic and some jarred salsa. Boy, is it good! You've heard of comfort foods. Well my true comfort foods are, pinto/refried beans and mashed potatoes. How do you make your pinto beans, what do you put in them as they cook?

If I were making this stuff, I would be sure to make two containers of cornbread. One of them would be made regular. The second would have green chilies chopped into it. Or Jalapeno peppers. I must have been very sheltered in my life. I had no idea that there were fourteen different kinds of beans that someone would use in a bean soup. Thank you for that bit of information, I appreciate it. I would also make sure that I had plenty of butter and cold milk on hand. I really like my cornbread made with Buttermilk and lard, but in the interest of being healthy I will forgo the lard.
