Did the Iraqi Government fear that the US would use Saddam as a bargaining chip?

or use him as a sword over their head and maybe even bring him back to power, if they were not happy with the current government? There are many reasons flitting around, has anyone thought of this? With his hastend hanging, hasn't the US lost a valuable bargaining chip?

I don't know about using Saddam to bargain, I don't think that was Bush's motive. If it is, I don't think it's going to work.

What I am trying to imply is that the US has lost a useful bargaining chip, a sort of a sword that it could hang over Iraq if it did not behave. Quite often deposd heads of state come back to power in this manner, and the conquerers keep in check errant governments in this manner.
