I don't work and I don't have an office. So the only phone that I can answer is my house phone and my mobile phone. When answering my House phone I usually just say, Hello... When answering my mobile phone, if the person whos is calling is one of my friends and they are on my contact list, I don't say hello I just say their name.

i just usually say hello when answering my house phone, however when on my mobile, things vary. because it shows the name of the person calling i may change my greeting, if its a good friend, ill say ello mate, or alright mate. ive even jsut said speak once.... quite rude so i didnt say that again. ive answered with 'jones' once or twice but thats mainly it. i do have one greeting which i just deteste however... when you call a friends house or similar and their dad, babysitter or whatever answers and ses hello and then the number youve just dialled! what is the point... i once had this and i said to them thanks for that but i already know your number as ive jsut dialled it! honestly.. how often do you call the wrong number?

i think the in the modern day world of cell phones the first word changed to " where r u" previously it used to be a polite hello now its changed bcoz we already know the number of the person calling u
