I never really supported neutering - having had 11 dogs and no problems ever. My daughter mini weiner though was a monster - he bit me several times - last time i ended up in surgery! When he got neutered he completely changed - in fact i am dog sitting at the moment - something i would have never done before. Anyone had such experiences with neutering a dog?

We have a male golden retriever who will be 2 years old in March. My husband does not want to have him neutered, but I think we should. He claims he heard somewhere that neutered dogs have a greater risk of getting cancer, but I have heard just the opposite. He is a very gentle pet and I am not worried about him biting us. I am more concerned about him getting lose and if he gets the scent of a female in heat he may run away. We live in an area with alot of traffic and I am afraid he may get hit by a car or that someone would take him. Also, he is very hyper at times and I have heard that getting them neutered calms them down a bit too.

Neutering and spaying DECREASES the chance of cancer - thats a medical fact - nothing for the cancer to grow on!!!! Apart from that - i dont really see a reason for neutering - unless the dog is allowed to wander about alone (TUT TUT!)
