2006 was a good year for rock. There were a lot of surprises and some disappointments but some bands put out songs that were just plain memorable and irresistible. What was the coolest rock you've heard in 2006?

the coolest song i have heard is "hey oh" from the red hot chilli peppers..its smmoth, its soft and it energizes you...r.h.c.p are a uniqe band and i love them

Unique sums it all up for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They've grown up a lot in terms of their songwriting but somehow they've retained the playfulness that have endeared them to so many kids almost a generation ago.

probably Green Day and U2 "The saints are coming". And video is awesome.

I would agree. It's amazing how one song can convey the different music styles of both U2 and Green Day and still rock.

I try to avoid the radio as much as possible so i'm not up on the "new" bands too much either even with two kids LOL cause my 11 yr old listens to KISS, AC/DC, steve miller and other various classic rock bands and my 13 yr/o son is into old school punk like the Ramones, the Pistols, Social Distortion, the Clash etc etc...BUT I have to say that the Red Hot Chili Peppers definately came out with some fantastic tunes this yr..I've been a fan of theirs for many yrs now and this latest album is fabulous....Tell Me Baby and Dani California I'd say have to be my favourites and actually a song that isnt new but I've not heard on the radio before is the Scene by Big Sugar

True. I, for one, haven't been listening to the radio much mainly because I have become my own DJ. Anyway, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the few old rockers who managed to stay relevant in the past year.

It seems that the best songs heard in 2006 were from bands with quite unique names. Think Arctic Monkeys.

A worthy choice. I first heard "Vertigo" in 2005 and the song still rocks now. For more recent U2 material, check out "The Saints Are Coming", their collaboration with punk trio Green Day.
