i was homeschooled for a year and my mom homeschools my sisters. they have been homeschooled for a long time. the one tip i can give you is set a time for school and stick to it and make a schedule of the day and the week and make sure and get them done. my mom doesnt make a schedule and my sisters get behind on school and then they have to do it all at once because they get way behind. just stick to your plan and dont change it unless you absolutely have to. it's easy to get distracted when your homeschooled.

I don't think that you have to have a schedule. I homeschool my daughter but we only do 30 minutes of schoolwork a day. The rest of the time we learn by doing chores, watching educational TV, going places or playing with educational toys. It works out quite well for us.

How old is your girl? DO you have any other kids in the house?

How many kids? Ages? I assume you already checked the homeschooling laws for your state. Some states are alot more rigid and dictate certain things like the use of an approved curriculum, number of hours

figures.... accidently hit the post button in the middle of my response. continuing: number of hours you have to log/report. But if you have flexibility in these things then my next question is why you chose to homeschool. Whatever the reason, it will probably lead you to discovering what type of format you would like to use and the best curriculum. Some homeschoolers buy a packaged curriculum and others put their own together. Tell us more and we might be able to point you to some things to help you get started.

I homeschool my kids. The #1 key is self discipline. #2 is routine. If you dont have those two factors, it will be very difficult to homeschool. I feel like I failed my daughter the first two years of her structured homeschool life and I wasnt as disciplined as I needed to. I have now gotten into a routine and log down all hours, etc and keeps me self disciplined on her schooling. I love homeschooling and Im really glad im doing it, but I had to learn the hard way. Let me know if I can help you in any way. :)

What curriculum do you use? DOy ou know if there are any sites where I can give my dd an assesment? I think she is further along then her age and I find myself teaching things she already knows.
