My country has many men and women whose efforts and legacies are considered heroic in one way or another. However, I believe our national hero is not any one individual but rather our armed forces, past, present, and future. They are the strength of this nation and have been our number one source of the preservation of our freedom since the founding of this nation over two centuries ago. These valiant men and women risk their lives every day to ensure that our nation is a safe place in which to live life as we choose and to ensure that our freedom is forever intact. Not only are they the strength of this nation but they pursue this calling with such honor and selflessness. They are doing it not for themselves, but for the people of this nation. I will be forever gracious for the sacrifices they make and obstacles they face and overcome every day so that this dream of ours remains alive. It takes not only a big heart and unmatched patriotism, but also unbelievable courage to face the unknown with a future uncertain lying ahead. And that is what I believe is our nation's inherent trademark more than anything else - is the tradition of these people fighting for this dream they believe in, and it being such a powerful and essential dream to so many people that even all these years later we still have all these men and women willing to risk their lives for it.
