WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congress may need to pass legislation to back up the Bush administration's demand that China move to a more flexible exchange rate, the chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee said on Tuesday.
``We have to let China know, probably from a legislative position, that the recent administration exhortations are supported by Congress,'' Bill Thomas, a California Republican, said in remarks at a U.S. Chamber of Commerce breakfast.
Action on China legislation may also help the chances of Congressional approval of a U.S. free trade agreement with Central America and the Dominican Republican, he said.
