Lemon detox diet...what the-?

Okay, so I was trying to find a diet to shed the Christmas pounds, as so many others are at this time of year...and I came across an article that my aunt's friend wrote, about something called the 'lemon detox diet' -- basically you drink a mixture of lemon, honey and water for ten days, and shed about 5 pounds... But can you honestly survive on just sugar and acid for 10 days? You're not supposed to eat anything else, which shocked me substantially -- and aren't we supposed to have a little fat to survive on? My first instinct was, naturally, that it was just another faddy diet, but it is actually legitamite -- I mean, there's a website which CLAIMS it has certification from the British Heart Foundation, and also claims that it has been accepted by the NHS as a healthy diet... Can this actually be true? I doubted it, but there seems to be a few people who have complete faith in it... It actually has a rather strong following... Has society gone mad?

i can understand this being a good method to use IF you are also eating properly. lemon is a diuretic, (makes you go to the loo) so it helps cleanse the body of any toxins and pronto, for that matter. it helps reduce bloating too (which is mostly to blame for temporary holiday weight-gain) the honey is only there to sweeten the drink, and the water to weaken the acidic taste. otherwise you could do the same thing with straight lemon juice (but few could palate that!)

Yeah, that's completely true, but as you said, it'd work a lot better if they were actually EATING at the same time, but the diet is JUST that for up to ten days -- it's RIDICULOUS!

There are a lot of diets out there that claim to have verification from the British Heart Foundation, and a lot of them are hoaxes. Personally I can't see the BHF condoning anything like this. It's practically starvation. Of course you're going to lose weight when you drink nothing but a lemony honey drink. You're depriving your body of everything it needs. And then when you start eating normally again you pile even more weight back on. I don't know how people can believe stuff like this.

I know what you mean -- my aunt's friend did an article on it, and a week after she came off it, she put nearly all of it back on! It's so strange that people will believe something like this, just to get thin!
