"Best Response" not the best myLot tool

I enjoy nearly everything about myLot, but I still think that the "Best Response" tool needs a lot of work. Here's why: First, I think it's hard for everyone to decide when it is most appropriate to designate a "Best Response." If you do it too early, perhaps a better response will come along. Or perhaps someone with good advice won't even bother responding because of it (I'm sure there are people on here like that). If you do it too late, you risk the topic going cold and falling away. And again, you risk non-response. Rather than attempting to figure out Best Response ettiquette, I think most people on myLot would just prefer to not do it. That isn't good, since it seems we get some kind of compensation for providing the best response in a discussion. I'm no myLot genius, but I was thinking it would be cool to combine the ratings (+,-,!) and the Best Response options so that readers could have a say in which response is the best. Ultimately the discussion starter should have the most say, but it would be nice if there was some peer evaluation involved. I don't know though. Has anyone else got any ideas? Any complaints about the Best Response option? Let me know what you're thinking cause I'm very curious.

Maybe they could devise a system for every ten or twenty responses that you get you get to mark another leaf as "best Response"... It seems like when I have a post that goes over 60 or 70 I really can't choose a best response! Some of my discussions I don't hand one out, because there are too many good ones that's why I give them all a +... I usually just pick the one that makes me either learn something new, or agree with the way the person proved their point... I'm not a premature best response giver though!

As a general rule I try and wait until my discussions get 20-30 responses before I even consider choosing a best response. Discussions that are "hot" for a couple of days I let run longer before choosing a best response. I will go through about once per week and check my old discussions to see if I have rated a beat response or not. If it does not have a best response marked and has been inactve for at least a week I'll go back and choose a best response, so long as it has at least 20-30 good responses. Sometimes I find it very difficult to choose a best response because 3 or 4 answers may be very good but similar. When I run into this problem I look at who formulated their ideas most clearly and who used proper spelling and punctuation. That is how I try to delagate my best responses.

You bring up a great point, and I like your idea. I'm all for it!
