2/3 cup butter (NOT margarine) 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup milk 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon salt 4 cups flour. 1) Cream sugar into butter 2) Dissolve baking soda in milk 3) Add eggs one at a time to butter/sugar mix. 4) Add milk/baking soda mixture to butter mixture. 5) Add vanilla. (I've been known to use more than a teaspoon because I like vanilla, but only do this if you aren't using imitation. In fact, if you are using imitation vanilla, you shouldn't be allowed near an oven.) 6) Add salt. 7) Add flour one cup at a time. Dough should be hard to stir in the end. 8) Refridgerate dough for a minimum of one hour. 9) Roll out dough and cut out shapes 10) Bake cookies in a 350 degree oven for 8-11 minutes, depending on the size of the cookies. Remember to cluster smaller cookies with smaller cookies and larger with larger when baking so that they bake evenly. I also do NOT recommend baking more than one cookie sheet's worth of cookies at a time to make sure they cook evenly as well.
