Screensaver is not only to prevent people from viewing your screen when you are not there, I read that pixels on the screen get damaged when they show "white" color for long periods without any movement, so using a screensaver or turning the monitor off is better when there's nothing moving on the screen. Personally I use the "turn monitor off" in the power management, it turns the monitor off when not in use and it starts back on as soon as you move the mouse like the screensaver, this way it saves power too as screensavers consume power and ram as someone already mentioned here.

Screen savers are not used because they look good on the screen. they actually password protect your computer till you come back and resume it.

No I don't use a screen saver because it's an old concept. Screensavers indeed consume RAM as another user posted here but they were especially created for old types of monitors (black and white) wich if you have left them on for a long time with the same image beeing displayed, that image would remain imprinted on the screen. Nowadays screensaver are used just for fun and for the special effect.

I put screensaver when i will be awhile for 10 minutes or less but if i will be gone for more than ten minutes i usually turn off the monitor. i don't want to waste electricity.

As I am the only one using my PC, whenever I go off for some time I switch off the monitor. It saves resources I feel. Now when I remember that I used to spend hours online to get a good screen saver which I now rarely use.

No I personally don't set a screensaver .Infact I don't like screensavers even a bit. It was only once when I applied screensaver on my pc and that was when I installed the Lord of the rings screensaver pack.

Yes. The screen saver is there for exactly what it says saving the screen from burnout. If an image is left on the screen for a long time it can burn the images onto it for good. so its not just there to cover up your work or for pretty pictures. It actually has a purpose. I also turn off my monitor if leaving for extended periods.
