Has anyone here actually saw the Mississippi River before? What state were you in when you saw it? Do you live close to it or did you have to travel to go see it? Our town runs right along the Mississippi River. We can see it every day. Its definetly an awesome sight and something to be respected. We see people from all over the place driving down by the river to see it. So wondered if anyone here has seen it. Please no one word responses. I'll read and rate each reply. I'll try to answer where I can but wanted to say thank you in advance for any responses.

I have crossed back and forth over the Mississippi on I70 many times, on vacations and accompanying young people on church sponsored trips. I have visited St. Louis. My daughter got to go to it's source on her honeymoon. She bought me a book about her current home state, Minnesota, and it has that location in it.

I've not only seen it, I've driven across it, many many times. I can't tell you where they all were because I've literally crossed it so many times. It's not that big of a deal, really. It's just a big muddy looking river.

Thanks for your responses, have you ever seen it flood? Its risen over its banks numerous times here and people start getting worried, then its a big deal. Luckily so far the sea wall has held up, knock on wood.

It is and has been the lifes blood of the heartland for our entire history. It is one of the great natural resources of this country and inspired us to greatness in the world.

I've seen it in New Orleans and around St. Louis. It's amazing to be sure, but I did not go just for the purpose of seeing it. I have travelled to New Orleans many times because it's just a few hours drive from where I live and such a cool place to visit. I have not been back there since Katrina hit. I am almost afraid to see it again. I was very pleased that my husband and I spent our fourth wedding anniversary in New Orleans in March 2005 and we spent a lot of time wandering around the French Quarter so we had good and fairly recent memories of it before the storm. When I went to St. Louis it was for a family wedding when I was around 10 years old and what I remember more than the river is the Gateway Arch, but the Mississippi River is truly amazing to behold.

Mississippi River Trail - map of the mississippi river
I've actually seen it from many states and even was lucky enough to take a boat ride down it at one point.

I have seen the Mississippi River several times. We often drive cross country from West Virginia to Oregon. We have to cross the Mississsippi River. It is a beautiful river. I bet it is scary when it begins to rise. Are you in any danger of high water at your home?

I never saw it in person, but have seen pictures of it. I would love to see it one day. It is quite beautiful, from what I can gather by the pics. I don't live anywhere near it to go there just like this.

I used to live in Chicago so saw it a few times when driving West to Kansas and other places on that side of the river. I've also been to New Orleans a few times and seen the river there. I was somewhat surprised the river didn't look wider, but later found out that it can be very narrow in some places.
