Grandparenting Rights in NC

Hello, I have recently became a new Grandma after my only child's death from drug od on 09-04-06. My son was 23 when he died and the girl was 6 and a half months pregnant and unsure if he was the father or not. After his death, i requested DNA sample and and 11-24-06 the baby was born. DNA results came back when the little boy was 3 weeks old and test confirmed my son was the father. So far, so good with the Mother of the child but im scared she could change her mind at anytime and in NC there is no set Grandparents Rights. I have a consultation with attorney this month and hopefully will find out what to do and if i need to go ahead and retain one, just in case. Has anyone else experienced this. This was my only child and he had no other children so this is the only Grandchild i will ever have. Much Love,
