Total Throid Removal

I had my throid totally removed 2 weeks ago for several cyst that were very large. Luckily test revealed no cancer. Now, Im wondering how long until i can expect full recovery? I had a touch of phenumonia from being put under for 3 hours and now i have a allergic reaction to the antibiotic cream and vaseline. Doc put me on predizone so now i cant sleep and the itching is driving me crazy. Benedryl helps a little. Does anyone know what happens when the body goes without the throid medication for the week after surgery, while waiting on reports. I understand from doc that the body does not even realize its gone for awhile but it will catch up. He just didnt tell me what to expect when that happens. Thank you for any imput.
