The word 'money' comes from the Latin 'Moneta', the surname of the Roman goddess Juno in whose temple coins were made. As a tribute to Juno, Romans built a temple in her honour and kept their coinage here. She came to be known as the guardian of finances and her second name 'Moneta' evolved into one of mankind's most favourite words: money.
