Hi guys, anyone here ever had a slipped disc? What did you do to get better? My doctors are recommending surgery but I am afraid of this. I know of people who did the surgery and ended up in a wheel chair. Please tell me of the options that you had and what you did. The pain was excruciating. I was taking steroids and pain killers and that helped alot but it's not a permanent fix!!!

Slipped discs can be very tricky. This is one case where I would get several opinions before I considered having surgery. From what I have heard it can be very risky and painful and afterwards appear to have no change at all. I have a friend here in Portugal who has a herniated disc and two doctors (one of which was her husband) advised against surgery. She still has a lot of pain at times when she sits for long periods of time but the condition has not worsened in over 20 years. She is satisfied in view of the fact that surgery might leave her paralysed.
