We have a 10 yr old Akita. We got her when my youngest son was a year old. We have 2 kids and she is amazing with both of them. They are big babies and act a lot like cats in some ways. They are protective of the ones they love and very loyal. They do need to be socialized when their young.

we had another akita thast my parents got when i was about 2 yrs old she passed though but was a great dog with us. she used to sleep outside mine and my sisters door as she got older,, i miss her... RIP nikki

I love akitas I have had them my whole life.. They are so loyal to you and your family.. And they are so adorable too!! even as they get older.. You definately should know about the breed before you get one..

I had never heard of an Akita until yesterday afternoon when one came over the back yard fence to visit my German Short hair - He was a beautiful male about a year old, we hadn't seen him before so I took him to the pound and after a bunch of sna-fu's with id numbers etc. I brought him home and drove the neighborhood until I found his owners. He was very well nature, extremely friendly and really beautiful -- but expensive he was akc registered, I am getting older and will more then likely get a smaller type of dog - when my German short hair passes.

go to a nearby shelter adopt a dog.. they also have pure breeds

They can be great dogs. I have never had one, but know someone who does. They are beautiful dogs.

I hope to be getting an Akita in the next year or so. I love them and think they are beautiful. The cost of the dog means nothing, I have a newfie and let me tell you, she was not a cheap dog like most people get. I have even been searching for rescued Akitas and you can find wonderful ones very inexspensive, if you want one and the cost is to much. If the pup is socialized like everyone says they are wonderful. I have 3 neices that are 3, 4, and 4 months and I personally have a newf and my parents a German Shepherd, so I know the pup will have tons of buddies and able to get used to other dogs and small children

I like Akitas very much and they are very cute to see.I have one akita at my home and it is 5years old and i love it very much.Everyday i take care about them and their food and diet.I usually watch in TV different types of dogs and akitas are similar to dogs.Whenever i went outside i will keep a chain around its neck and it is a safe place.Akita dogs look very cute,funny and pretty looking.
