Buy Gerber's stage 1 purnes, my daughter had the same problem and it worked right away. Stock up on them so you have them if she gets constipated again. I would mix the purnes in with another fruit or veggie though I would recommend giving her half of the purnes since she is 4 1/2 months. Also I would give her juice diluted with water. These two things helped. Hope I could be of some help to you.

firstly you were not supposed to give out side food untill he is min 6 mths old.. after that you can introduce only home made food.. nothing like packet food for childrens.. they contians pesticides and preservatives.. which is harmful for small kid.. whatever m telling u is as per UNICEF guidelines... and i strongly agree with their guides..

One of my daughters favorite dinners is vegies and chicken. I bought a food processor so I could puree my own food for her and I feel better knowing I have not added anything but her milk to it. Tastes better too!!

Exactly. Homemade food is best. Commercial foods hardly have anything in them. Most of it have a tad bit of the food and the rest are fillers such as corn starch. Empty Calories, pretty much.

i work in a hospital setting and the rule of thumb tends to be - try not to introduce foods to your baby before 6 months old. the reason some pediatricians say that is because a common side effect is constipation. every little one is different and some are ready to take on foods earlier than others. epecially if they already have some teeth or the formula is just not enough for them. have you tried pedialite? of course nothing can beat prune juice. if that doesn't help then medical intervention might be needed to make sure nothing is compacted in her little bowles.

No, I have not tried pedialite, I didn't know she was old enough for that. Also, until now I thought they told me not to give food until 6 months because of food allergies. I did not consider that it was because of constipation. Thanks for telling me.

Ya know that is why I started her 0n the baby food. My daughter would make me sore (if you know what I mean) and cry for more. I told the nurse practitioner and she said to feed it to her 3 times a day.

I have given her some apple juice but it would only work in a hit and muss sort of way. I have only tried apple though. Maybe I need to try something else.

add a little dark karo syrup to your baby's rice cereal. I was told this by my peditrician and many older mommas' along with water, and prune juice.

Now thatr you mention it I have heard about using the dark Karo syrup. I think tha is a very good dea because anything sweet goes down a lot easier.

Give her some diluted prune juice or put about a teaspoon of dark Karo syrup in some water or her milk. My kids all got constipated like that when they started baby food. These tips are from their pediatrician.

Prune juice or water w/ a little prune juice in it.

I will have to look for prune juice so far I have only seen the gerber apple and white grape fruit juices. Does it have to be specifically made for babies or any will do?

Pureed pear. Pear juice is good too, but the puree is better, works everytime. If it ends up being too strong, mix it with baby cereal.

I really dissagree with all the comments about waiting until a baby is 6 months to start solids..... All babies are different and develop differently, my son had digestive problems with milk and his pediatrician told me to start him on rice cereal at 1 month, i had to mix it with baby water though because he threw up any milk, his ped. switched his formula atleast 20 times, and he would projectile vomit with every single one. My son also started baby food at 3 months

Ya my babies were both just to hungry to not start them on baby food

At that age she should only be getting formula. Her little digestive system cannot handle solids until she is at least 6 months. Take her off solids for now. She is showing signs of not being ready by being constipated.

Logically speaking I guess your right. The nurse practitioner told me to start her because I toldf her that nursing just wasn't satisfying her. She then told me to give her rice cereal and that I could do this three times a day. I have scince cut back but she still seems to get constipated. Maybe the answer is to quit giving the baby food.

I would say give her some water to drink while she's eating and maybe mix in some prunes with whatever you're feeding her. My son had constipation problems at that age really bad, it was from formula, he had to be on soy.

The nurses stressed that I not give her water. Then I added it to her baby food now she is doing a bit better. Cute picture!

Try to give water to her. Introduce fruit juices also along with the food. If it persists try to give raisins soaked in water over 5 hours.

Hey thanks for the info. about the raisins in the water. I will try that out. I already tried the fruit juice and it only works some of the time for some reason.

Your right not all babies are alike. With my son all it took was giving him a bit of water. Wish it was that easy with her!

what I did when that happened to my daughter was I gave her water and Gerber Stage 1 prunes. That really helped and u should also introduce some of the fruit juices as well especially apple juice. All those things worked great for me. The doctored also suggested putting her in the tub cuz that usually works but that didn't work for me but it may work for you. Good luck.

How did he say(the doctor) putting her in the tub would loosen her bowels?
