Named after famous people

Australia

My parents named me after a Beatles song (Eleanor Rigby) and after King Richard the Lionheart's mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine. I know that many people are named for relatives, especially with names that are passed down through the generations, but I am interested in how many people out there are named after famous people, places, songs, books etc. My other brother is also named for a famous person - well, probably not so famous now! But he was named for a 70s comic antihero named Kane who started about the same time as Conan. Who else has stories about their names?

I don't have any story about my name I believe I was named after a friend of my mothers, only because she like the name, nothing interesting. By the way welcome to Mylot, I see you are from Australia, I am from Melbourne, quite a few Aussies on here....anyway have fun while you are here...cheers...:)

Hey, thankyou very much, that's really kind of you! I appreciate you making me feel welcome, and I can only aspire to your many points :) I'm from Brisbane, but I visited Melbourne only a few months ago and loved it, especially the Fitzroy area. Hope to see you around the site!

I love Brunswick St Fitzroy so much, years ago a friend of mine lived in that area and we tried out every cafe in the street...It is a wonderful street. By the way I like your Avatar, its a good one....:)

Ta muchly! It's my car - a 1958 Morris Minor named Victor (because it's powered by a Victa lawnmower engine :) ). It's my pride and joy, even though it breaks down every two weeks and is often very expensive to repair, although luckily my dad can do a lot on it because it's apparently mechanically very simple. But I wouldn't sell it for the world (although I would consider it if someone was offering me a Jaguar...!)

That's a long time after you were born to be named! But at least your parents made sure they had the name right, and it's a really nice one. Thanks for responding, and yeah, your cute thing is pretty cute :)
