Do you own or would you like to have your own business one day?

I'm not talking about all these online gimmicky things. What I'm talking about is actually running your own business whether it be a place you go to every day or you work from your garage at home. I think most of us strive at some stage in our lives to work for ourselves and not have to work for or answer to anyone else. I'll be rating your responses accordingly.

I work part time for someone else but I also do party plan on the weekends. I'm hoping that one day I can have this as my only income.

yep i do and last year hubby and i bought a business. its not easy and there are lots of sacrifices but hopefully one day we will see the results. It is lots easier in some ways working for yourselves but then in other ways it brings many headaches and there is always the thing of watching what you spend etc. I think if i worked for someone else again now, id be a really great employee as i realize the REAL way that things work. There is no doubt that we can suceed in our business it just takes lots of blood sweat and tears!!

I agree. Most people can't make money by sitting on their butts at home. Good luck to those that can but for most people, owning your own business is a lot of hard work. Somehow, there is a lot of satisfaction and self worth that comes from that.

My husband and I had a home improvement/building business for about ten years. It was a very stressful time and a lot of our time was spent not only at the business/working it or doing the books. I also worked part time so it was full on. Having said that we have recently changed addresses and are both working for someone else. It is lovely to have a steady income. There are definate benefits and disadvantages to owning your own business, but for now I'm sticking to being an employee.

My husband and I started a home business recently and we love it! No parties to do, no inventory, no order-taking. We talk to people about wellness and show them how to buy the same type of things they are already buying, just a better product from a different store. We love it!

I'm with one of those businesses in the Wellness industry too. I don't 'push' the product onto people though. I mainly just buy the products for myself because they are environmentally friendly. If someone asks me about it, I tell them. If they wanna buy stuff, I show them how. I like doing the parties I do anyway. They're fun and I get to meet some great people.

Yes I wish to open a restaurant of my own someday. My parents owned a restaurant for 10 years before they shut it down due to various problems. It was a family oriented business and my parents worked very hard and took care of everything themselves. I love to cook and hope to start something in the same line someday. Right now I'm not in a position to invest and start one.

Good luck with your dream of running your own restaurant. What sort of restaurant would it be? eg: asian food, take away?

I'm an indepedent contractor, more or less, but it still feels like working under or answering to someone else, since I still work for actually companies. I would love my own business, whether it's still at-home work or out of the house. My dream biz would be owning a small cafe/bookstore on some tourist-type place, probably somewhere in the San Juan Islands.
