I am new to mylot. I love to write and once condsidered being a writer, but I cannot seem to start discussions that generate interest. What am I doing wrong? I have responded to more discussions than I have started, I completed my profile, I have a wide range of interests so I don't know where I'm stuck. Will you all help me to evaluate this problem? Thanks.

Soetimes it's about being in the right place at the right time - that is asking the right question at the right time. I love some of the more philosophical topics but my brain is not always in gear enough to give a really interesting reply. Or one that makes any sense :) Sometimes it's easier to reply to one question than to another It's all about timing. Good luck with your writing career. I am a romance writer and love it :)

I have noticed that such is true of myself too. In the middle of the day it's a little harder for me to wrap my brain around somethings. Early mornings and late at nights seem to be my time for more deep thinking. I was a fanatic when it came to romance novels when I was a teenager. Have you had anything published?

The key here is to build your friends group up. Support their discussions and they will support yours. Add some interest groups and write in those, they will generate some responses too. It is not you, it is the site is so big and so many new discussions are coming in so fast people can not respond to them all. It is all about friends and community.

First thing is you should respond to others discussions. Secondly you list some members as good friends and come to terms that when you respond to their discussions, they should respond to yours.

wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to ask your friends to respond to your discussions?. I make it a point to visit my friends' discussions and leave a comment, as long as they are not violating any of myLot rules. Oh well!

You will find that some people don't like stories. They respond more to simple questions. I will go have a look at your stuff and make some comments. Maybe we can get others to comment.

I think that the subject of writing would generate a whole lot of interest in here. I have encountered a few writers, some write poems, some stories and they love to read other people's work. One member asked does anybody write poetry, and if so, would they share it. She submitted her own poem, and I submitted one of mine. When I went back to follow the thread a couple of hours later, she had soooooo many poems in there from different members you would not believe. So, go ahead, try the subject. Just ask if anybody else likes writing as a hobby, and add a piece of your own writing. I will look out for you! :-)

Hi, you need to be very patient here. I know a lot of us have discussions that don't evoke many responses but it will happen eventually. Keep writing and don't quit, you've just started.

I kept writing and guess what? My thoughts are flowing better and I'm less concerned about how many responses I receive. Thank you.

One thing to do is respond back to some of the responses and that get you put back on recent discussions and lets more people see it. I have gotten more responses as I have added more friends so I think that helps.i also do not feel i should have to ask friends to respond to me and will delete if they have not responded to any of my post, or I to any of theirs, that is what friends are about, right?

I have started to respond back to the responses I receive, if only to say Thanks. I had misunderstood one of the myLot rules about that. Thanks for your comments.

I finally got my stars the other day and I came in at an 8. A few days later, with some more postings here I moved to a 9. I was just thinking that a 10 is in reach if I took the time to post some pictures. I've probably just been lazy, but thanks for reminding me, I should add a pic/avatar.

One other thing if you get an avatar that is unique it will help people recognize you and then they will request your friendship if they start to see you a lot.
