Why Do We Get Bumps On The Tip Of Our Tongues?

I get a bump on the end of my tongue sometimes and it hurts like someone has cut it open for surgery. Why does this happen? I have not bitten my tongue nor have I told a lie. My Mother use to tell me this, but she was wrong! I cannot find a reason for this to happen. Any suggestions? A friend says it is from using your tongue to get things out from between your teeth. Can that be it?

Sometimes food with high acidity, such as tomatoes or orange juice, can cause bumps on the tongue. Also thrush can cause bumps on the tongues.

I have been told this by a Dr. and he also said cinnamon spice will cause these bumps. I never that.

I don't know what causes this problem but I will tell you how I deal with it when it happens to me. Mash the bump with your finger nail like you would any bump you come across. Then put listerine on it. The next day it will be gone and it won't hurt anymore. Now when you do this it will hurt like crazy but it was already hurting. Kind of like ripping a band aid off a cut. Do it quickly, wipe your eyes(because they will water)and then use listerine or any other disinfecting mouth rinse.

There is no way I could ever stand that kind of extra pain without passing out. You must have a lot tolerance to pain!

I think it you are lacking some vitamines. Or vegetables. Try to eat veggies with iron. And if dont take vitamines start, see If that does something. And see in acouple of weeks. Ha Ha I had to say that!

Hi it happens to me and i know it hurts too much. It happens when you have constipation - stomach upset. A good thing to try is to apply a bit of glycerine on it. It helps even though the bump will take 2/3 days to go away.

I think sometimes if you eat foods that are too spicy or are physically extremely hot this can happen...SS

Sometimes it can be caused by medications you are taking. I guess there are different reasons for them. As the other poster mentioned it can be a vitamin deficiency as well.
