My favorite is Edgar Allen Poe. He is the
father of modern day poetic prose. Then:

3. Emerson
4. Hawthorne

Thank you very much friend. I agree with your ranking. I waited for three months for a different view point. May be, today's readers are not interested in American writers.

Thanks for the vote. It's too bad you didn't get more
responses. I can't say I'm surprised though. I really
don't think people read classical literature all too
much anymore. Look at the multimedia sensory overload
people are exposed to today. It's a shame.
