This is so bizarre. There are like 6 responses to your question and none of them are from a Scientologist. How would these people know what they're talking about? I've been a Scientologist for over two decades. Scientology is just a set of principles and methods to improve your life and reach for a higher spiritual awareness. I think it's awesome. A lot of people claim strange things like it's a sect and it's all about money, but what they don't realize is that it's a philosophy you can study on your own by getting books at your local bookstore or local library. I also have a resource site at http://www.liveandgrow.org, feel free to visit.

I see it more as a cult than an actual religion. I m from the Tampa Bay Area, and I know now, Clearwater real estate has become a cash cow for the church

Do you also know what they do there? How can you judge then? And which attributes of a cult do fit to Scientology? You should prove it if you claim something here.

My view is that it is incompatible with Christianity, pressures people to spend large sums of money, and is not upfront with its true preachings. A few years ago I bought and read one of founder Ron Hubbard's books. It bothered me enough that I burned the book. I would suggest to anyone to study it in depth before even considering being a member.

You can find a lot of writings about that it's a great religion. If you only look at the definiton of a sect (which is a secret, closed community of some belief), you will see that scientology is not that. If you want to find out about any religion, the only real way is to see it for yourself, then you can decide. Adult people should be able to form their own opinions :-) For example, I was born as a Protestant and couldn't imagine a Chatolic mess until I went to attend one, just to see it.
