In my apartment building it happened a lot that the fire department stopped by. At least 3 false alarm rang. I am concerned about our important papers, i.e, passport, SS, credit cards, taxes, etc.

It all depends on what the papers are of course. Some of them are in my handbag and others are lodged with our Solicitor for safe keeping. I have also recorded all the numbers of important documents in a notebook which is always in my handbag plus once again the Solicitor has copy of all of this information. Generally it is recommended that important papers should be kept together, so in the event of an emergency you can just grab them and run. I have some photos and special momentos in a box so that if anything happened, I could grab it as well as my handbag.
