Not the same type of life saving as you mention, but my dad saved 1 adult and his 2 children from drowning at great risk to his own life. The guy had gone out sailing on a very stormy day, this can be some fun if you know what you are doing, but kind of stupid if you are a novice. We saw what we though was a capsized boat and 2 specks floating away from it. The binoculars confirmed our worst fears. Our ski boat was bouncing around to much in the hoist to get it out. My father being the old salt that he is, grabbed our small sail boat from the side of the boathouse and off he went He rescued all three from a sailboat. It was the most nerve racking thing to watch. He would swoop by scoop up a kid, tack, and scoop up another kid. He broght them safely to shore first and then went back to the boat where the father was still clinging....he actually was arguing with my dad because he did not want to leave his boat. Finally he let go and let my dad pull him up. They come visit my parents every year at their cottage and my dad has since taught the guy to sail
