Free and easy visa to America?

Years back, I was in Bangkok and read an article from the national newspaper about a visa by raffle, just submit your name and other personal details. Since it was on a national paper,so I thought maybe it's not a scam, so I sent my name just for fun and curiousity. I was not able to follow up what happened until now. But If you are given a free visa to America with sufficient pocket money, will you gladly go.
