Why do we love home-made videos?

Another Monday morning and another email in my inbox from a mate sharing the latest funny video on youtube. Not a day goes by without another article written about the success of youtube (100n video clips watched a day) and other similar sites showing user generated content. Why are these sites so successful? Why the obsession with home-made videos? Youtube is really only the evolution of reality TV shows. Look at the success of You've Been Framed. For years now, people have been willing to film videos and send them in to get a chance to have them aired on TV. People like the idea of sharing their ideas and thoughts with a wider audience. The wider audience always loves to be able to get an insight into the lives of other people. We are all nosy after all and the internet allows us to be nosy on a global scale.
