For some reason I can not get my girls to eatthings that are healthy. What tricks do you use? I refuse to fight with them over food, but what else should I try?

There are alot of things you can try. firstly, Don't buy any junk, only keep good foods in the house, so when they choose something, they'll have to choose something you want them to eat. (or at least hide the junk food somewhere where they cannot access it!) Secondly, HAve them help you prepare it, sometimes when they help make it, it will seem more familiar or they may be more willing to try thier creation. 3rd, look up some new recipes that will taste good, pizza with fresh vegtables, or mix some pureed veggies in lasagna or spaggetti. ANd Lastly, try to be a good example. IF they see you eating junk constantly, they won't understand why they should. And remember, Sometimes it's just a stage.. and if they are hungry, they'll choose healthy food over nothing!

I agree with harper you must first start buying healthy food. I try to hide healthy food in my son's favorite things and he is seven and still can not make out what he is eating as long as its his favorite. He hates cottage cheese so I mix it in mashed potatoes and make cutlets or bread rolls. In Pizza I add lots of veggies he hates capsicum so I cut it in to very very tiny pieces and add it as he has been having it like that for a year now e does not know its capsicum. I mix cauliflower in the mixed vegetable rice or fried rice again cutting it in to very very fine pieces. sometrimes even grating it. Its really funny to watch him eat that with so much relish. Bottlegaurd I make sambhar that is boil it with pulses and tell him its potato. I hope you also can invent such new things. Good luck. Just try and think one step ahead of your girls, kids are easy to fool when it comes to making them eat their veggies. Just a little imagination and bit of straight face will do the trick.

Oh please don't think I am sounding snobby when I say this, but I don't give them an alternative. Kids will always eat when they are hungry, they won't starve. If you fix it, they will eat. If they don't, they just stay hungry, it won't hurt them. This is the best advice I could have ever gotten from my girls Pediatrician.

I have the same problem with my 2 teenage girls. They are major junk food addicts. I have found out that so far the best thing is to let them help you when you are cooking, because then they can see how it is made and are more likely to want to try it if they helped make it. That is how I get my girls try new and different things. This makes the kitchen experience really different, but at least they are athen willing to try things.

Try to motivate them somehow - try to convince them that by eating the healthy food they'll have a much better look and boys will be willing to marry them ;) Or maybe it's just the taste case - try too cook your healthy food in a better way, make it more tasty adding some spices or something like that.

my daughter has always been the healthy nut in our family. i have no problem of her being healthy. my son is the junkie junk food king. he only likes unhealthy food. i try to let him see that healthy food is good too. there is a cookbook out there sold by DK books that has recipes for kids that are healthy and decorative. i used this for a while. my kids thought it was fun. i hope this helps out.
