Gosh, I hope not! -- because well I plan on being an old person one day and I certainly don't want to be a burden. I believe elderly people are wonderful, they have much to offer in wisdom and experience. One of my career choices was being a Certified Nursing Assistant, and I was also a private care giver for elder people, and even though some of my clients could be rude or hard to handle, stubborn and even mean, they were valuable, precious individuals that needed tender loving care, was it easy no it wasn't but those experiences I had in those jobs have shaped a different view of elder folks being a burden. If you are fortunate enough to have an elderly person in your life, take the time to talk to them and get to know about them -- what can an elderly person of say 83 share with you - the inventions, the technology, the medical marvels, the wars, the poverty, the history -- No old people are not a burden to society -- and may I never forget that one day I shall be such as these. :)

Old people are only a burden on you if you want them to be and from the sound of this post I think maybe they would be for you. I, personally think that old people are great and an infinate source of wisdom and life experience. I take care of my elderly parents on a daily basis and I love it. My elderly Father in law lives with mee and Mrs mee, although he is a crab a$$ most of the time since he is miserable (his decissions) he is still a source of information that I would never know about. So no they are not a burden they are just underutilized!! Have a great day!!

Old people may be a burden to society but they have contributed something to society. The Holy Bible commands people to respect old age and in fact commands the church to take care especially widows if they have no descendants to take care of them. If the Holy Bible is followed, it's not much a problem because their descendants take care of them. But as human beings become materialistic, they neglect their elders and attend just to their own needs. Besides, life is becoming harder and harder really but that should not be a reason for generally taking the elders as a burden to society.
