How safe are the man built island?

i'm fascinated with dubai's development especially with the resorts. their country is filled with sand and oil yet they have luxury resorts. i just wonder how stable are these islands.

I don't want to sound like I'm being funny, however isn't it the same where ever you live?
Regardless of where people live there's those who have no respect for others and it isn't always done to how smart they are. serial or just normal killers aren't always people with low I.Q's =)
Some are actually very smart... Just let reality go beyond them.. ~Joey

Yeah, it's great engineering and architecture. I agree, they look fragile, and a lot of work would be required to turn sandy sea bed into a workable support for even small buildings. It's either going to be one of the greatest architectural achievements of all time, or a colossal mess.

Actually they are said to be quiet safe.
And a correction the designer was not an arab, infact not even a muslim.

I am amazed I never heard of these before!
This is very exciting. I wonder if the islands can be raised if global warming melts the icecaps and the sealevel raises.
