UK Bank charges

January 9, 2007 10:00am CST
A few days ago, my bank, the Halifax, sent me an email, saying that as 3 direct debits had failed to have been paid from my account at the end of December they were going to charge me £117 for "admin charges". ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN POUNDS?!! These are ridiculously unfair charges, I mean, how much does it cost to send a letter?! So I got straight onto the phone to them and blew them up, resulting in them refunding me the charges. These charges are unfair (and I am pretty sure illegal), and seeing the result I got today, I would suggest that anyone who has to pay these "charges" (which, incidently are taken straight from your account- so you can hardly refuse to pay them) should get onto their banks straight away and demand the money back.
