My mother used to tell me that
Thumb represents parents
Second finger represents brothers & sisters
Center finger represents own self
Fourth finger represents your partner
Last finger represents your children
Really interesting friends...i dont know whether it is real or myth

Wow, I didn't know that, I'm glad you put it here. After reading all the posts here now I know the answer why the wedding ring is placed on that finger. Thanks for the information.

I've never heard that, it is cute though. I always heard, like the other posts said, that there is a vein running to your heart. Frankly its probably all bunk, but its what we do now, and when someone is out in a bar, that's the finger they are checking. Just safer to follow tradition!

Also, wearing the ring on the left hand is another very old tradition. This originated because people once thought that a vein or nerve ran directly from the finger on the left hand to a vein in the heart.

I don't know about all other fingers what I know is wedding ring is being put to left fourth finger because of it symbolical meaning for your dear love ones. In anatomy of human body, left fourth finger is the only one among our fingers that has vein which directly connected to our heart which symbolizes our true love.
