Bad Words

Words are extremely important, because we use them all the time. We use them to communicate to one another with, to ask questions, to answer questions, and to use them for just about everything in life. But what I don't understand is why some words are bad, while others are good. What makes a bad word bad? I mean who thought of the idea of making some words bad and some words good? I can't seem to get this question out of my mind.
