Schizophrenia is the descriptive term for a group of psychotic disorders characterized by gross distortions of reality; withdrawal from social interaction, and the disorganization and fragmentation of perception, thought, and emotion. Schizophrenia develops slowly and insidiously. The early clinical picture is dominated by seclusiveness, gradual lack of interest in the surrounding world, excessive daydreaming, blunting of affect, and mildly inappropriate response. Clinical Picture: ? Breakdown of perceptual filtering ? Disorganization of thought and emotion ? Anxiety and panic ? Delusions and hallucinations ? Withdrawal from reality
