Hitting Dogs; Is It Too Harsh?

When I was younger I was mortified to have walked out of my room at a time when my idiotic father decided to slap my dog for merely taking some chocolates to eat. Do you think this is reasonable: after all, they were just chocolates. When talking to someone else about this, they said that he might of only done it because dogs can get extremely sick, and in some cases, die, from eating chocolate. Is this true, and if so, do you think that slapping the dogs face was much too harsh - I do.

maybe your dad was just got carried away,it's true that they shouldnt eat chocolates, i don't really believe that there's a need to hurt them if you want to discipline them....poor dog.

I think hitting is too harsh, a dog will react to the tone of a voice, I don't believe in hitting animals its a degrading thing for them...

I don't believe in it because it HURTS THEM and they have NO way to react. They are helpless.
