what will be the scientific event that changed the world?

i think that the invention of CFC in 1930's lead to the destruction of ozone layer.second world war also has a great effect on it..

i think i will better call it industrialization revolution that is most responsible for the climatic change, each industry spews out one or the other pollutant in to the atmosphere, water or soil.
