Has anyone had back surgery? If so how did it turn out?

I haven't personally but my partner only just recently had had a microdiscectomy (try saying that 3 times fast! lol). The surgery went better than ever expected and he was actually up and walking, albeit very slowly, the next morning. And 2 months later he is almost completely recovered - back to about 98% and still improving!

I am glad to hear that he is doing so good. Unfortunatly it is not the same for me. I had to have L-4 L-5 taken out and fused with bolts well the fusion never took so I am in more pain then I was before the surgery. Plus i have to have another one. It is very hard to deal with. What kind of meds was he on?

Oh dear I'm so sorry to hear that! Do they forsee the second lot of surgery majorly improving things? My partner got pretty lucky and after he left hospital he only needed prescription medication for a couple of days (can't remember what they were though) and then about another week with just Panadol or Nurofen...now he doesn't take anything as he is almost completely pain free.

the doctor will not give me any say anything. He just says that he is hoping that this will work. But he still has no idea why my bones would not fuse. So I am in limbo. This is also workers comp and it is horrible to deal with them They have made my life so much worse. Again, I am very happy for you and your man.

I have had a spinal fusion and lamenectomy (spelling?) almost 3 years ago on March 19th. I had discs removed at L4 and L5 and bone removal on L4, L5 and L5S1 (due to excess bone growth from spinal stenosis). My bone and bone from a bone bank was replaced where my discs were. It was THE MOST horrific pain I have ever felt post surgery, and I was told to walk as much as I possibly could. Within 1 month, I was walking a mile, and 2 months later, I was walking 3 miles a day. I'm still walking all the time as that seems to keep me pain free. My fusion did take good. I took triple the amount of calcium to help my bones fuse together and my surgeon was convinced that helped me get better faster. I came home from the hospital on hydrocodone, and eventually took Lortabs. I occasionally take a Tylenol 3 on bad days (I live in Michigan where it's cold). I'm sorry to hear about your pain, and I do hope that eventually you will be able to find some relief. Just keep fighting for your rights and to get the proper care you deserve! I am a back surgery survivor, people do not even believe I have 6 screws and 2 titanium rods holding me all together! It's great to be bionic! Best of luck to you!! :-)
