Young and Restless

Youth may be the main littering culprits in any country, but the other side of the story is that many young people are actively doing something about the problem. During the holidays, some students took up the task of becoming Turtle ambassadors and helped feed, measure and tag turtles which were fitted with satellite tracking devices to study how they survive in the world. The turtles were then released into the South China Sea. An auditor, in her younger days, won an Environmental Award for organising a campaign to collect and recycle used bottles from staff and students at her polytechnic. A youth group leader whose members help conduct outreach programs, from campaigns to reduce the use of plastic bags to organizing regional ecology tours, said: "We hope to get others to understand why we are making such an effort. We can't expect people to be responsible if they don't know why they should be." * * * * * * * * * * * My favourite poem on nature : "Many a gem of purest rays serene, the dark unfathomed caves of ocean bear; Many a flower is born to blush unseen, and waste its sweetness in the desert air".
