We have rabbits even in the winter time. Because we live on 3 acres of land, a field there are many.

We have a long summer season here. From May to October. So I have a long time to have many vegetables growing.

The best thing I found for fending off the deer and rabbits were my dogs.

Yes, that's the best solution I've heard yet! So simple, why didn't I think of that! Of course I don't have a dog right now. I lost beloved Annie,(golden retriever) to paralysis last July. I may get another dog in the spring.

Use stuff called 'blood meal' You buy it in a bag from the nursery. You sprinkle it over your plants (it doesn't hurt them at all) and it will keep all animals away from your plants. When we use to have our trailer they were always into my flowers and eating the leaves and then someone told me about blood meal and it works amazing. I hope this helps you.

I know marigold plants help in flower gardens, but I'm not sure if it would affect vegetables. I had a terribel problem with squirrels eating my sunflowers last year. But then I planted marigolds and they didn't bother them anymore. I have also heard that you can sprinkle crushed red pepper around the garden. Only problem is, it washes away, so that's a lot of work. Good luck.

Tie pie pans from branches, they'll flash about and make noise to scare animals off. You can also get a bobblehead owl designed to scare rodents away when perched outside. Deer can be difficult, once they get used to the pans the only real option is venison.

Thank you for the suggestion. I may do that. By the way welcome to the lot. I hope you do well here. Are you looking to make money or are you here just for the social end of it?

Well I have had to share my garden with the deer and we have come to the conclusion that nothing short of a good fence is the 100 % answer. I have tried typing moth balls on my rasberries, putting tags on the limbs that flutter int he breeze, having a radio set to turn on with a motion sensor but still the deer are not that dumb. It works for awile but just when the berries are almost ripe they brave the foil tags, the noise and the smell to eat those tender shoots and my berries. I have an electric fence set up around my garden and that has been sucessful, now if I could just keep my grown children from raiding the raspberries.........

Thank you that is what I am going to have to do. That is the last straw though , an electric fence. I am determined to have a garden. I saw your rock wall, it is beautiful. We have just moved to a brick ranch with 3 acres, that has been neglected for many years. WE have alot of work to do.

I have heard (can't find anything on it right now) that planting garlic around the garden will help deter animals with the odor. It also works well for keeping insect pests away.
