Bush IS behaving as though he is the president of the world - but in a paradox he has weakened America badly. America isn't as powerful as it was when Clinton was in power in 2000. For instance the dollar has crashed. In 2000 the dollar was worth 75p, now it's just 50p! What can you buy with 50p? And the trend looks like it will become even more worthless with time. And America is taking a thrashing in Iraq. The days when the US could just send a gunboat and everyone would tremble are gone. If they can be defeated by Iraq, which was weakened by over a decade of sanctions, they can be defeated by everyone. Finally, the definition of a superpower is a country so strong that they can not only take care of themselves, they can take care of others. But it's become clear that America can't really take care of herself - only look how they botched the rescue after Katrina and let about 1300 people just die. Bangladesh, the poorest country in the world sent $1million in aid to the US for Katrina. You are no longer a superpower when you are accepting aid from Bangladesh!

If you think that the US was "defeated" by Iraq, then you are very confused. If the US wanted to, we could blow Iraq out of existance, easily. The thing is, this war is something called "limited engagement". They are trying to use as little resources as possible, because we aren't trying to conquer or destroy the country, we are trying to protect it. The Iraqi army was destroyed in weeks, not a challenge whatsoever. The people being killed know are by terrorists hiding in their houses and popping out to shoot rockets at people. And if you think Bangladesh is richer than the US, you're wrong again. The US is the biggest distributor of foriegn aid. To be called a superpower, you have to have a certain amount of money.

it's not just about money. if it was about money china would be a super power, they're the second richest country in the world. some would call china a super power, depending on definition, but the general idea is that a super power is a state that involves itself in international relations and has the power to influence on a world scale. the british empire was a super power until it was decentralised, and like china, india has the potential to become a super power. the european union has ecconomic power similar to the US but it doesnt have a unified military like the US

Hhaha, fighting for a hobby. Riiiiiight. "Whatever country they like" ??? 2? That were threats to us? The international community doesn't real have a say in who has power and who does not. The US is the only superpower in the world today. That means we are the richest and strongest country. I mean, we could limit the globalism of today by say, dropping nuclear deals with India, stopping trade that benefits other countries as well, or the trade/sale of high end military equipment, etc.
