It is said that the worlds first coin is lydian's coin, its called the third stater (or trite)this coin was first minted in 600 BC in Lydia Asia Minor (current day Turkey). it is made of electrum, an alloy of silve and gold ( 50 to 60% gold) LINK: http://rg.ancients.info/lion/article.html

Wow... that looks really interesting. Thank you for the url; I just might take a look in there. Do you collect coins, Altair, or did you just stumble across this? I have a great interest in Neolithic and Megolithic stone structures. I have visited a few in England. Coins are a part of the ancient cultures and I'm interested in taking a look. tahts great info.. but i believe there is a claim by other coins as the first too..
