I have been using Linux on all my web servers and windows on the desktops, but now I am switching over to all Linux. It gets better every day. Sometimes I need support for Linux and I go to http://www.linuxboards.org for help and information.

forget about the old beleief about linux is unfriendly! I was using windows and linux too for a while, but about a month ago I have deleted my windows partition couse I dont need it! just an example: on windows I was running 2 servers(apache+an ftp) and did my daily browsing, programming etc.! My cpu was on 99%-100% everytime! On my new debian system I'm running 4 servers(apache, ftp, smtp and samba) using the same softwares what I have used under windows and my CPU is ALWAYS BELOW 18% and one funny think! i have a win4lin pro installed on my debian and I can run windows operating system in a window! If I do this my CPU is running around 70% ;) Its quite hard first time to switch to linux but it worth it

Linux has a user-friendly variant in Ubuntu. you don't need to configure it and its interface is similar to Windows. It has Open Office, Mozilla Firefox, GIMPShop.

i agree to u man....i use linux only ...ubuntu...it rocks simply ....i was a windows crazy geek till the first of this month ...my friend asked me to checkout linux live cd...i did..i have studied hardware and networking and linux ...so i thought lemme give it a try...viola .... i was taken aback coz before 3-4 years linux online support was hardly available...but now ....they rule...i am not against windows..but i strongly recommend u windows people to try out ubuntu ....u will regret for using windows....the advantages of linux 1.no virus no spywares 2.no need for firewall software 3.less resource 4.very very fast.. 5.user friendliness comes with a little online googling of what u want to do any person who uses a computer for the first time will feel windows as completely as alien software....similarly u windows people are not accepting the fact that this is an entirely different OS so u have to study somewhat to work on it...some terminal commands...look its a beautiful architecture man...so please dont just dislike linux ..give it a try....man Cnetboss sorry for using ur comment are to give advice to others man..... Thank You

a microsoft window photo - a snap of microsoft window
i like windows because i think microsft is the best . Microsoft Windows is the name of several families of proprietary operating systems by Microsoft. They can run on several types of platforms such as servers, embedded devices and, most typically, on personal computers. Microsoft first introduced an operating environment named Windows in November 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing trend of graphical user interfaces (GUI) popularized by the Macintosh. Microsoft Windows eventually came to dominate the world's personal computer market. At the 2004 IDC Directions conference, IDC Vice President Avneesh Saxena stated that Windows had approximately 90% of the client operating system market Security has been a hot topic with Windows for many years, and even Microsoft itself has been the victim of security breaches. [2] Due in some part to the widespread usage of Windows on personal computers, as well as a number of technical reasons there is reportedly a fivefold greater amount of malware for Windows than other operating systems such as GNU/Linux, Unix, Mac OS X, and FreeBSD[3]. Windows was originally designed for ease-of-use on a single-user PC without a network connection, and did not have security features built in from the outset[citation needed]. Windows NT and its successors are designed for security (including on a network) and multi-user PCs, but was not designed for internet security in mind as much since, when it was first developed, the internet was less important. Combined with occasionally flawed code (such as buffer overflows), Windows is a frequent target of worms and virus writers. Furthermore, until Windows Server 2003 most versions of even Windows NT were shipped with important security features disabled by default, and vulnerable (albeit useful) system services enabled by default

But why is Microsoft the best? It is better marketed, It is the most used system because of marketing genius. Of course, for YOU Windows may be the best because it meets your criteria, but for others, Linux or BSD may be better. It depends on the needs really.

Linux- user unfriendly, no that is a myth. Just use any of the new distros, or try a live CD. Windows XP is a good system, and is the market standard because of marketing strategies. It is certainly very user friendly, but I think that Linux is better simply because it is more stable and secure, is free or comes at a nominal cost, does most of the things better (games are an exception), even though the choice is more restricted than Windows. Moreover, YOU are the owner of Linux distros, as opposed to Windows where Microsoft is still the owner, you have just leased the system. Linux is MY system, therefore I like it better.
