You could understand my three year old now when he was around a year old. He started talking at a young age though. It might have something to do with it.

My older one talked at like 18 months very clearly and I don't think she has stopped since.........she even talks in her sleep. My other one who is 18 months now has a few word, but nothing like my first. It is so true how different kids are.

i have 3 children and i could really understand my oldest around 2 years, my 2nd had hearing problems and needed tube in his ears so he didn't really begin to speak clearly until around 3 and as for my daughter she was speaking clear at around 2 years also. she is 3 now and just won't shut up sometimes. but that is ok--lol. i use to teach my kids pronunciation by speaking with my cheak to their cheek. it really helps them, but you should do it from day 1. they pronounce their words better and sooner. my 2nd son to this day at 6 years still likes me to talk cheek to cheek with him. i hope this helps!

Wow, good question! My oldest, before she was one. Her first sentince was "What is this?" sounding like "Whatch ish thish". We have on tape, followed by her birthday party, so I know before she was one. My youngest, she was almost three! I think some of this can be credited to her older sister, who could understand jibberish better than I could, so my younger child was not motivated to learn english. That and she is my child that is ADD.

My son said his first words at 7 months, but he started speaking TO us when he was closer to a year. Now that He is 2, he can usually tell us what we need to know, even if it doesn't make sense to everyone else, we know what he means.

My youngest was about 14 months....I think she learned from her older sister. She talks alot better then any of the other children in her play group at day care. My oldest was about the same age but I think she talked better because we never baby talked to her and she talked the way she heard it.
