We have seen Music evolve to a great extent over the Years. Similarly Rock Music too has eveloved sice its inception probably in the late 60s and Early 70s. Rock'N Roll was probably the firat Rock and if you count today there might be more than 20 different types of Rock Music in the World. Some of these include famous ones like Hard, Heavy, Metal, Alternate, Pulp, Hip Hop etc. So what actually would you call the Real Rock Music?

The original was the 50s rock. The later evolution in the 60s brought the basic three chord rock song out of the womb, after the Beatles and Stones opened up the music, and the market to other ideas. American music retaliated with acid rock from the West Coast and Urban Rock from the east. The basic rock format lived on in the mainstream three and four piece bands, but it was heavily influenced by pop and blues. It grew up and evolved progressively into a more complex form of arrangement, but retained the basics. Even reggae is actually a form of 50s style rock, in a different time and character. Real rock is 3/4 time, guitar, drums, bass, vocals, sometimes adding keyboards and other instruments like electric violin, etc. I don't consider Hip Hop or any of the technopatch/drum machine stuff as rock. I think they've gone outside the category.

I think the real rock music would be Lamb Of God. Although its more metal, its pure and heavy. Lamb of God are the ones re-defining metal.
