Question about photos on Mylot

Are the photos that we upload used as the avatars for those keyword topics on the left hand side of the screen? Is so, does that include the personal photos in our profiles, or just the photos that we post in a discussion? I'm curious, because it would help me to know which keywords to use when uploading a photo.
