why do boxers wear gloves?

well in ancient times they used to wear a lot of heavy stuff they wrapped it with some cloth and also used metal and spikes etc, but in modern day they wear it to make the blow stronger and to protect their own hands, i had a little practice long ago and even with the gloves on the soft skin between the knuckles gets torn

i think that they hit hard on somebody's face which if they don't wear gloves then the person who is hit may get his nose and other parts damaged. and also even teeth can get break. it can also result in injury to the person who is hitting on somebody's face if we apply newton's third law of motion. so one wears gloves in boxing
